Resurrection Rolls Recipe

Ingredients

16 large marshmallows

1/2 cup butter, melted

1/4 cup sugar

2 tablespoons cinnamon

2 (8-oz.) cans crescent roll dough

How to Make It

Step 1

Combine sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.

Step 2

Unroll crescent roll dough, and separate each roll along perforations.

Step 3

Roll marshmallows in melted butter, and then in cinnamon-sugar mixture. Place one coated marshmallow on the large end of an unrolled crescent dough segment, and roll the marshmallow until completely covered by the dough, pushing in sides as you go. Pinch seams on either end to seal each roll. (If you choose to make the rolls on Saturday night, place your rolls on a cookie sheet and place them in the fridge. On Sunday morning, take them out and allow them to warm up for about 10-15 minutes before putting them in the oven.)

Step 4

Place rolls on a cookie sheet and bake at 350˚ for about 12 minutes.

Step 5

Immediately after removing rolls from the oven, brush with remaining melted butter and then sprinkle with remaining cinnamon-sugar mixture. Serve warm.

Resurrection Rolls Script

Instructions are regular text, bolded text is what you say.

Gather your recipe supplies and your family. Combine the sugar and cinnamon in a bowl and mix.

When we left the disciples on Friday, they were so sad. Their friend Jesus had died and they were hurting. They cared about what happened to Jesus after his death.

Have everyone take a marshmallow which represents Jesus. Hold up your marshmallow.

They took Jesus’ body and they prepared it for burial. They covered Jesus’ body in oil to help keep his body safe.

Dip the marshmallow in the melted butter and have everyone do the same.

Then they took spices and put them on Jesus’ body.

Coat the buttered marshmallow in the cinnamon sugar mixture and have everyone do the same.

After that they wrapped pieces of cloth around Jesus’ body and placed him in a special tomb, kind of like a cave, that belonged to a man named Joseph.

Roll your coated marshmallow up in the crescent roll dough. Pinch the sides together so that the marshmallow is completely covered in dough. Have everyone do the same.

To keep Jesus’ body safe, they put a big stone in front of the tomb, like your dough ball, except very big and heavy. They put a guard by the tomb to make sure no one bothered Jesus. Then they went home very sad.

Place your dough balls on the prepared cookie sheet and put them in the oven.

The disciples and Jesus’ friends grieved together. Friday night and Saturday they stayed together to comfort each other. It felt like a very long day. Saturday night they went to bed, still sad about their friend.

Pause the story as the rolls bake. When they are done, gather your family back and brush the remaining melted butter on top of the rolls and sprinkle some cinnamon sugar on top.

Early Sunday morning, the women got up to go and check on Jesus’ body.

Have everyone take a roll.

When the women arrived, they saw the stone had been rolled away!

Have everyone take a bite out of their roll.

When they looked in the tomb, Jesus’ body was gone!

Have everyone look inside their roll. Where is the marshmallow? It’s not here! There is now just an empty space inside the roll!

Where was Jesus? Jesus’ body wasn’t there anymore because he had risen from the dead! Jesus was alive! Angels came and told the women that Jesus was resurrected, he had come back to life! We can trust in Jesus because God is powerful and not even death can stop him! Hallelujah!
